Director
Mebane wrote,
directed, and produced the short film Tackle
Box, which received rave reviews from critics, screened in over fifty
festivals worldwide and garnered 16 awards (including 5 audience awards). The
film was acquired for distribution and was in consideration for an Academy
Award nomination for best short film. He
is a past member of the National Executive Board of the International
Cinematographers Guild, has served as a programmer of both features and shorts
for the Slamdance International Film Festival and will program features for the
AFI Film Festival in 2009.
Mebane began his
career in film with an internship with Academy Award winning director of
photography Russell Carpenter, ASC (Titanic)
on Shallow Hal, which starred Gwyneth
Paltrow and Jack Black. He continued to study filmmaking first hand as a member
of the camera department on the set of numerous
independent films, national commercials and major feature productions such as Charlie’s Angels- Full Throttle featuring
Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Demi Moore, Monster-in-Law starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, Mr. & Mrs. Smith with Brad Pitt and
Angelina Jolie and upcoming production The
Ugly Truth with Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler.
Matthew Mebane earned
his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a minor in Chemistry from Sewanee- The
University of the South where he served as an Emergency Medical Technician on
the community volunteer ambulance service.
